UMass Lowell is excited to announce the grand opening of its new, state-of-the art, pilot-scale lyophilization facility. As the newest member of UMass Lowell’s Core Research Facilities, the Lyophilization Lab (LyoBay) provides an R&D test bed for process development, scale-up and the development and application of new process analytical technologies. It will also serve as a user facility for pre-clinical process development and training to support the local and national biotechnology industry. The facility was developed with the generous support from the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center and from the National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals (NIIMBL). A NIIMBL funded project team led by Physical Sciences Inc. (PSI) of Andover, MA, and including UMass Lowell, the University of Connecticut, Purdue University, Merck, and Genentech, are guiding the facility development and will be the inaugural users of the facility developing process scale-up tools to support improved biopharmaceutical manufacturing.

Please join us to celebrate the opening of this new, important addition to our innovation ecosystem. Our list of invited speakers includes representatives from PSI Inc., Pfizer, NIIMBL, Mass Life Sciences, UMass Lowell, as well as local and state government officials. You’ll be able to tour the new facility and see some of the other R&D labs available in UMass Lowell’s Core Research Facilities.

Refreshments including beer and wine will be served.
