SUMMARY:Harvard Medical School Executive Education Webinar: Natural Experiments in Health Care – What Really Works
DESCRIPTION:Join Anupam B. Jena\, MD\, PhD\, the Ruth L. Newhouse Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School\, for this webinar\, Wednesday\, May 13\, 11 AM. \nOne of the biggest challenges facing health care today is identifying what treatments and policy initiatives work and don’t work in real-world settings\, particularly when early evidence on treatment effectiveness stems from highly controlled\, small populations of patients and when treatments are costly. In this webinar\, Anupam B. Jena\, MD\, PhD\, the Ruth L. Newhouse Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School\, will discuss how natural experiments and big data can be used to inform our understanding of what works and doesn’t work in health care.

SUMMARY:Leading Digital Transformation in Health Care
DESCRIPTION:“Leading Digital Transformation in Health Care” is a two-day Harvard Medical School executive education program led by John D. Halamka and designed to provide you with the knowledge\, tools and strategies to design and implement technology-enabled change initiatives in health care. A certificate of completion will be offered for this program. \nDigital health technologies can make it more convenient for a patient to make an appointment. They can make it easier for doctors to access the right information at the right time. They can make it more efficient for a health system to manage their population and deliver high-value\, high-quality care at a reasonable cost—or to continually improve care through knowledge generation in the model of a learning health system. Excitement and investment in these technologies is rapidly increasing. At the same time\, the adoption and value proposition of technology for health care remains complex and multifaceted. Which innovations will provide more cost-effective\, patient-centered\, quality care? How do you differentiate value-producing technologies from hype? As a leader\, what are the critical steps in managing the change process? How do you leverage digital strategies throughout your organization to benefit all aspects of health care? Insights into these questions are critical not just for health systems\, but also business leaders developing industry solutions for health care. “Leading Digital Transformation in Health Care” is a two-day Harvard Medical School executive education program led by John D. Halamka and designed to provide you with the knowledge\, tools and strategies to design and implement technology-enabled change initiatives in health care. A certificate of completion will be offered for this program.

SUMMARY:Editing Our Evolution: Rewriting the Human Genome
DESCRIPTION:How do you think we should handle the power of genome editing? Would you use gene editing therapy for yourself? For your child? For everyone in society? Why\, or why not? \n \nHow do you think we should handle the power of genome editing? Would you use gene editing therapy for yourself? For your child? For everyone in society? Why\, or why not? This is a conversation everyone should join. In this 2-hour forum at the Museum of Science\, experts in science\, ethics\, and health will give short presentations about genome editing. Then\, audience members will form small groups to grapple with three different scenarios. A facilitator will guide the discussion so that everyone has a chance to be heard. Light refreshments will be provided. Free parking is available in the Museum garage\, with validation at the event. The event is free\, but registration is required.

SUMMARY:Possible Talk: Building A Scientific/Political Ecosystem To Get America Safely Back On Its Feet
DESCRIPTION:COVID-19 and the current pursuit to return to “business as usual” has exposed areas of great need and opportunity across the healthcare system. While many organizations have stepped up in the fight against the virus\, the reliability of tests\, treatments\, and vaccines needed to truly reopen the economy continue to be called into question. This is being felt most acutely in serological testing\, where an unacceptable number of false positives and false negatives persist today. Collaboration through the crossroads of science and politics is needed to establish proper testing and public policy\, so that we can see the interconnectedness of our work and\, ultimately\, drive new therapeutic breakthroughs and medical discoveries forward. \nIn this Possible Talk\, Kevin Hrusovsky\, President and CEO\, Quanterix\, and Founder of the non-profit\, Powering Precision Health (PPH)\, explores the intersection of these three elements against the backdrop of COVID-19. He’ll detail how the PPH syndicate is harnessing cutting edge biomarker technology to fuel critical advancements in early detection\, enable deadly cytokine storms prediction\, and deliver empirical insights into immunity that could help overcome testing challenges and set the stage for reliable\, widespread\, homecare testing. \nMoreover\, he’ll discuss the implications of these collaborative efforts to accelerate new therapies and vaccines – and the opportunity before us to rethink the healthcare paradigm and our approach to sicknesses of all kinds\, including neurodegenerative diseases\, cancers\, cardiac conditions\, and more. \nMassBio makes every effort to accommodate our entire community at each of our events. Please let us know at least 3 days in advance of the event if you require special accommodations\, such as captioning.
