SUMMARY:Predicting Mosquito-Borne Disease Transmission in a Rapidly Changing World
DESCRIPTION:From climate change to land use\, anthropogenic alterations to the environment are occurring at unprecedented rates and on an unthinkable scale. These developments alter the built landscape and our access to life-sustaining resources. \nBut they also disrupt the ecological relationships that bind together humans\, mosquitoes\, and parasites. Upsetting these relationships results in changes to the distribution of host organisms\, rates of contact\, the spread of infectious diseases\, and the seasonality of transmission risk. \nDisease ecologist Courtney Murdock will explore the climate variables that influence mosquito-borne disease transmission. Deploying advanced models of climate-based disease spread\, Murdock’s research seeks to predict transmission patterns in order to respond to the epidemiological effects of the climate crisis. Register online.

SUMMARY:RNA Leaders USA
DESCRIPTION:LSX are known for bringing life science investors together to assess and meet with the most promising up-and-coming biotech companies. When the first mRNA vaccines hit the market in 2020\, one of our investors asked us to look at the resurgence of therapeutics targeting or made of RNA with the view to developing a high-level conference. And so\, RNA Leaders was born. \nThe 2022 RNA Leaders Series saw 100+ world-class speakers and over 600+ senior leaders from around the world join the most comprehensive and only RNA industry-focused events in Europe (Basel) in the spring and the US (Boston) in the fall. \nThe community came together to hear the latest advances in RNA chemistry\, get clinical updates from the companies developing new therapies\, source the services partners who are helping to deliver drugs to patients and develop their network with over 750+ partnering meetings! \nThe explosion of the RNA field continues\, and RNA medicines are at a critical moment in time. At first in wake of the pandemic mRNA vaccines dominated the headlines\, although this is still the case mRNA therapeutics and vaccines to treat other infectious diseases and therapeutics like cancer are also taking centre stage. \nHuge advances are also being made in RNAi and antisense technologies as our understanding of the chemistry evolves and AI platform progress discovery. Delivery tools are increasingly sophisticated and impactful. Advances in genomics and gene editing are driving new approaches. And exciting work targeting RNA with small molecules and non-linear RNAs are emerging. \nWith that in mind\, we can’t wait to bring the community together\, face-to-face\, in the fall 2023 for the second annual RNA Leaders USA Congress. \nAnd in the words of Moderna’s CSO\, Melissa Moore\, “when I saw some other speakers who had been invited\, I felt this would be a really great place to connect with and network with my peers”. \nSo\, if you’re passionate about all things RNA please join us\, and more than 500 biotech\, pharmaceutical\, investment\, regulatory and scientific professionals at the RNA Leaders USA Congress in September 2023.

SUMMARY:Nature Conference - Cracking the Code: The Dawn of Nucleic Acid Medicines
DESCRIPTION:The conference will discuss the development of nucleic acid medicines — both the recent clinical successes\, and current and upcoming challenges. By bringing together academics in basic and translational research and their peers in thriving biotechnology companies and promising start-ups\, the conference aims to foster dialog and to spearhead collaborations. The first day (October 17\, 2023) will bring awareness of R&D driven by biotechnology companies developing nucleic acid medicines\, and discuss career paths for students and early career researchers to become the next-generation of leaders in biotechnology. The following two days will discuss what should be learnt from late-stage and approved nucleic acid gene therapies and vaccines\, and highlight promising preclinical therapeutic modalities — in particular\, genome and epigenome editing\, and the design of new RNA therapeutics — and machine learning and bioinformatic tools accelerating the development of emerging nucleic acid therapies and vaccines.

SUMMARY:Health Equity Forum: Closing the Health Equity Gap – The Opportunity for Industry Action
DESCRIPTION:There is great momentum forming in the region to address pressing health equity challenges. Policy makers and leaders in the healthcare industry have formed a myriad of partnerships and coalitions to better understand root causes to health inequities and to begin to untangle the structural challenges that have hindered progress in this area for years. The State’s unified response to the COVID-19 pandemic gives many hope that what were once intractable difficulties in providing quality healthcare to under-served communities can in fact be addressed\, if the forces of academia\, government and industry act in concert. \nWhile the momentum to address these issues is undeniable\, there is a window of opportunity for action by industry leaders that must be seized\, with new ways of thinking applied to address layers of challenges that have built up over decades. \nPlease join us on Thursday\, October 26\, for an afternoon designed to discuss and actively define — through breakout discussion sessions – what new and urgent actions are required by industry leaders to accelerate the closing of critical health equity gaps. You will have the opportunity to: \n\nGain perspective from Commonwealth officials about the critical place health equity legislation will have in the Healey Administration’s legislative agenda in 2023 and 2024\, and what actions industry leaders must take to shape this legislation\nHear from leaders at the Health Equity Compact about the path charted at the recent Health Equity Trends Summit\, and what critical strategies and collective actions were prioritized\, and what actions health care and life sciences leaders must now take\nLearn from Boston Medical Center leadership about innovations in care and community access that were featured at the EQTY ’23 Summit for Health Justice\nGain insights from leaders at the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center\, MassBio\, and MassMedic on how addressing health equity challenges sits at the heart of industry efforts to reauthorize the Massachusetts Life Sciences Initiative\nActively participate in facilitated breakout sessions designed to collectively plan meaningful actions to address critical health equity issues\n\nDiversifying the healthcare and life sciences workforces to enhance access to under-served communities\nFraming the critical role of data – given current limitations and the disruptive opportunities presented by AI – in addressing health inequities\nUnderstanding the astounding costs of inaction on health inequities – estimated at $5.9 billion – and what actions your organization can take as part of a collective movement to address these costs\nEnhancing and promoting the voice of under-served racial and ethnic communities to accelerate the path to significantly improved health outcomes\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSummary Agenda \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nUpdate on legislative plans for health equity\nPanel discussion summarizing achievements and goals for Massachusetts Health Equity Compact and linkages in health and economic mobility\nBreakout sessions and industry Call to Action: Workforce diversification\, Critical role of data in addressing health inequities\, Addressing the $5.9B costs of inaction – industry actions required\nFacilitating critical community connectivity\nA healthy Boston for all – a view from Boston area high school leaders
