SUMMARY:Virtual BioXchange sponsored by Scaler Marketing
DESCRIPTION:BioXchange has gone virtual to allow the best online opportunity to interact with individuals from throughout the life science industry. We have missed seeing everyone at our monthly events since the pandemic hit so we have worked hard to find the best possible solution in order to take them virtual. The event is being powered on Grapevine Network’s platform which provides an amazing experience that allows attendees the freedom to check in and out of different group discussions within an interactive chatroom environment. This platform provides the closest experience to an actual networking event since before the pandemic hit. \n***Event is expected to sell out and NOT ALL RVSPS ARE GUARANTEED ENTRY into the event due to the limited attendee capacity offered on the platform.

SUMMARY:Project Frontline - Live Premiere & Panel Event
DESCRIPTION:Massachusetts was one of the states hit hardest by the first wave of the SARS-COV-2 virus in the early part of 2020.  As the case count surged\, supplies of testing equipment and critical personal protective equipment (PPE) for frontline workers ran short\, leading hospital executives to take extraordinary measures to secure products.  State governments operated in uncharted territory –  scrambling to fend for themselves and competing against neighboring states in the quest to purchase and deliver much needed masks\, gowns\, and face shields.  The fragility of global supply lines for PPE was exposed. \nMassachusetts is home to world-class academic institutions and top-notch healthcare systems.  Boston is a city brimming with companies on the cutting-edge of biotech and medtech research and solutions.  The supporting manufacturing base stretches the breadth of the state\, creating an ecosystem uniquely equipped to respond to the crisis.  State government leaders acted quickly – establishing a team of experts from healthcare\, academia\, and industry to stand up domestic supply lines of commoditized but essential hospital products. \nEpisode 1 of this multi-part series documents the onslaught of the COVID-19 crisis brought on by severe shortages of PPE and testing equipment at hospitals; the formation of the Massachusetts Manufacturing Emergency Response Team (MERT); and sets up the response by the MedTech industry to provide domestic and in-state manufacturing capabilities for critical supplies. \nPanelists Include: \nJulie Chen\, Ph.D\, Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation\, Professor | UMass Lowell\nBrian Johnson\, President | MassMEDIC\nMike Kennealy\, Secretary\, Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development | Commonwealth of Massachusetts\nMark Keroack\, MD\, MPH\, President & Chief Executive Officer | Baystate Health\nCarolyn Kirk\, Executive Director | MassTech Collaborative

Produced in partnership with the NAACP Boston Branch and GBH WORLD\, “The State of Race” will continue on Wednesday\, Sept. 23\, at 7:30pm ET with a discussion on how racial inequities in Massachusetts school systems disproportionately impact communities of color. \nA panel of experts including Gloria Ladson-Billings\, former Kellner Family Distinguished Professor of Urban Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison\, Bianca Vázquez Toness\, Education Reporter at The Boston Globe and Jamal Grant\, Founder and Director of The NET Mentoring Group will join our event host\, award-winning journalist Dan Lothian\, in a wide-ranging conversation surrounding challenges communities of color are facing as schools reopen in the state. We will explore how the opportunity gap and digital divide impact our public education programs and much more. \nThe event is free but space is limited and reservations are required. \nThis is a Forum About Race and Inequality in Partnership with the NAACP Boston Branch and WORLD Channel. \nThis monthly series looks at different issues of race and inequality. The conversations will be supported by research released by the NAACP. \nView the previous “State Of Race” on the topic of COVID-19. \nHow it works: Register for this virtual event. We will email you the link to this virtual event once you have registered. GBH will be using Zoom Webinar for this event. Zoom is free to the public but will require a computer download. You can download Zoom here. If you already have Zoom you will not need to download the platform again. \nPlease note by registering for this event your name and email will be shared with GBH and The Boston Globe for future marketing purposes.

SUMMARY:Reforming Philanthropy With a Racial Equity Lens
DESCRIPTION:With the advent of the COVID-19 crisis\, philanthropy stepped up and addressed the immediate funding needs of community organizations. But a question remains: Will philanthropy show up to address the long-standing issue of funding disparities for POC-led organizations and communities of color? \nCheryl L. Dorsey\, President of Echoing Green (1992 Echoing Green Fellow)\, and Orlando C. Watkins\, Vice President for Programs at the Boston Foundation (1994 Echoing Green Fellow)\, will discuss Cheryl’s research on racial bias in funding and the ways her organization has endeavored to mitigate the issue. Their conversation will also detail Orlando’s efforts to tackle the issue as a Black executive in philanthropy and how the philanthropic sector in Greater Boston can reform its funding practices with a racial equity lens.

SUMMARY:Access To Care Challenges And Innovation During Covid-19: An Oncology Perspective
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an informative discussion on how COVID-19 has affected patient access to diagnoses\, care\, and innovative therapies. We’ve assembled an expert panel that will explore these important issues from an oncology perspective.  Our forum – moderated by Robert K. Coughlin\, President & CEO of MassBio – will feature the following speakers: \n\nDr. Meghan Mooradian\, MD\, Clinical Oncologist\, Medical Oncology\, Massachusetts General Hospital\nKirsten Sloan\, Managing Director\, Policy\, American Cancer Society’s Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN)\nMichelle Carrillo\, Director\, Advocacy Relations-Oncology\, Amgen\n\nThe COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound\, direct impact on Massachusetts\, with over 121\,000 total cases-to-date. However\, as response and recovery continue\, the ripple effects reveal a much broader public health impact. Our health care system has been shaken to its core\, perhaps none more than the area of cancer care. \nAn American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) survey of cancer patients and survivors focused on COVID-19 effects uncovered that of those in active treatment\, 79% reported delays to their health care. What does the patient’s path to diagnosis and treatment look like? Has cancer care adapted to meet these challenges? How is Massachusetts uniquely positioned to meet the moment? Our panel of experts will address these questions and more from their patient\, oncologist\, and innovator perspectives.
