SUMMARY:Reforming Philanthropy With a Racial Equity Lens
DESCRIPTION:With the advent of the COVID-19 crisis\, philanthropy stepped up and addressed the immediate funding needs of community organizations. But a question remains: Will philanthropy show up to address the long-standing issue of funding disparities for POC-led organizations and communities of color? \nCheryl L. Dorsey\, President of Echoing Green (1992 Echoing Green Fellow)\, and Orlando C. Watkins\, Vice President for Programs at the Boston Foundation (1994 Echoing Green Fellow)\, will discuss Cheryl’s research on racial bias in funding and the ways her organization has endeavored to mitigate the issue. Their conversation will also detail Orlando’s efforts to tackle the issue as a Black executive in philanthropy and how the philanthropic sector in Greater Boston can reform its funding practices with a racial equity lens.

SUMMARY:Access To Care Challenges And Innovation During Covid-19: An Oncology Perspective
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an informative discussion on how COVID-19 has affected patient access to diagnoses\, care\, and innovative therapies. We’ve assembled an expert panel that will explore these important issues from an oncology perspective.  Our forum – moderated by Robert K. Coughlin\, President & CEO of MassBio – will feature the following speakers: \n\nDr. Meghan Mooradian\, MD\, Clinical Oncologist\, Medical Oncology\, Massachusetts General Hospital\nKirsten Sloan\, Managing Director\, Policy\, American Cancer Society’s Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN)\nMichelle Carrillo\, Director\, Advocacy Relations-Oncology\, Amgen\n\nThe COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound\, direct impact on Massachusetts\, with over 121\,000 total cases-to-date. However\, as response and recovery continue\, the ripple effects reveal a much broader public health impact. Our health care system has been shaken to its core\, perhaps none more than the area of cancer care. \nAn American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) survey of cancer patients and survivors focused on COVID-19 effects uncovered that of those in active treatment\, 79% reported delays to their health care. What does the patient’s path to diagnosis and treatment look like? Has cancer care adapted to meet these challenges? How is Massachusetts uniquely positioned to meet the moment? Our panel of experts will address these questions and more from their patient\, oncologist\, and innovator perspectives.

SUMMARY:Let's Talk About Webinar Clinical Inequities - How to Increase Diversity in Clinical Trials
DESCRIPTION:According to the CDC\, Native Americans\, African-Americans\, and Latinx people are three times more likely to contract COVID-19. And they are 4-5X more likely to be hospitalized due to it. Yet\, people of color are underrepresented in COVID-19 clinical trials. That’s a serious problem! \nIn 1993 the U.S. passed the NIH Revitalization Act\, establishing guidelines for the inclusion of women and minorities in clinical research. Not much has changed since 1993. There is a disparity between people of color and clinical trials. In this session\, our experts will weigh in on this systemic problem\, the advancements that will ensure more inclusivity\, and how start-ups can lead the change. \nSPEAKERS\nRose Blackburne\, MD\, MBA\, Executive Medical Director of Global Product Development\, PPD\nDr. Rose Blackburne joined PPD in 2015. As Global Head of the General Medicine portfolio\, which includes Women’s Health\, Nephrology\, Dermatology\, Urology\, she has strategic input and oversight for a portfolio of pharmaceutical and medical device product development opportunities across these areas. Dr. Blackburne is a globally recognized leader in product development and has been instrumental in numerous approvals for pharmaceuticals\, vaccines\, medical devices and diagnostic tests. Dr. Blackburne is passionate about improving health outcomes and health care delivery and has extensive expertise in Women’s Health and Minority Health Policy. \nRonke Dosunmu\, MD\, Pediatrician\, Founder of Foundation Pediatrics\nDr. Ronke Dosunmu is a board-certified pediatrician and is the founder of Foundation Pediatrics\, a 25-year-old private practice serving an inner-city area in Northern NJ. She has worked for many major pharmaceutical companies as well as consulted in the field of drug safety and pharmacovigilance. She is an experienced Principal investigator and knows first hand the difficulty with recruiting minorities into clinical trials. Dr. Dosunmu is passionate about reducing healthcare disparities\, especially in clinical research participation. \nR’Kes Starling\, RPh\, MBA\, President & Chief Executive Officer\, Reveles Clinical Services\nAs CEO and Founder of Reveles Clinical Services\, R’Kes has over 18 years providing high-touch pharmacy services\, clinical reach operations\, specialty drug distribution\, and clinical management to patients with rare and complex diseases such as Chronic Kidney disease\, Cancer\, Hemophilia and Cystic Fibrosis. Additionally\, R’Kes has consulted and worked collaboratively with over 30 biopharmaceutical companies on pre-launch to commercialization development\, launch strategies\, and patient access programs for new specialty pharmaceutical therapies. \nMODERATOR\nRachael Fones\, Director\, Government & Public Affairs at IQVIA\nRachael Fones facilitates IQVIA’s engagement in public policy discussions with elected officials\, regulatory bodies\, industry associations\, and patient and issue advocacy groups. SUMMARY:Discover How to Design and Lead a Thriving Company as a Founder
DESCRIPTION:Culture is a way to align people with shared values to support each other to overcome challenges and achieve ambitious goals efficiently and meaningfully. As the saying goes\, “culture eats strategy for breakfast.” However\, designing and scaling a people and purposecentric culture can be hard\, especially for fast-growing companies. Your company’s culture impacts everything from your productivity\, engagement\, and customer loyalty\, to your speed of innovation\, retention of talent\, growth\, and\, of course\, profitability. By creating a thriving company built on cultural design\, futuristic leadership\, and customer-centric strategies\, companies can achieve sustainable long-term success. \nIn this session\, you will meet the award-winning entrepreneur with nearly two decades of experience working with founders and CEOs. Therese Gedda is often referred to as a “Master Teacher\,” “Founder Therapist\,” and “Yoda” by the over 1\,000 founders\, CEOs\, and executives she has been working with over the years. She is a recognized expert within company culture\, scaling companies\, and the high achiever mindset. Over the last few years\, she has been working with several Massachusetts-based BioTech\, MedTech\, and Life Science companies as an Executive Coach\, CEO advisor\, and cultural expert. \nIn the session\, we will uncover how to design a thriving company culture with an interdisciplinary team. As a founder\, you will also learn actionable leadership techniques that align with your desired culture. As an additional bonus\, since an intentionally well-designed culture helps you be even more of who you are\, you will also learn techniques for peaking your performance as a founder. \n“Therese is an extraordinary Founder/Executive Coach\, and working with her continues to have a significant impact on my career and life.” – Jan Schnorr\, Co-founder of C2Sense. \n“When I talk about Therese with fellow founders\, I often refer to her as a “founder therapist” – someone that can empathize and share the burden of your journey and help you navigate successfully. I’ve personally recommended her to many of my founder friends who have subsequently gone on to refer her to their friends – a testament to her continued impact.” – Sridhar Iyengar\, Founder & CEO at Elemental Machines.
