SUMMARY:SeXX and Immunity: Exploring the impact of female biology on immune responses to infectious disease
DESCRIPTION:It’s Time to Address a Knowledge Gap\nThe X chromosome does more than determine sex! When we treat biological sex (XX versus XY chromosomes) as a variable in immunity and diseases\, it can lead to a new understanding of the underpinnings of disease. The COVID-19 pandemic helped amplify awareness about sex-specific differences in immunity against infection\, however\, we still have a lot to learn. Sex differences in disease outcomes are not limited to infectious diseases – they are observed in outcomes of autoimmune diseases and cancers\, and even in response to vaccination. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMIT’s “SeXX and Immunity” Series Addresses Gap\nOn January 19\, 2022\, MIT will kick off a new series of discussions and seminars called “SeXX and Immunity.” These sessions will explore our understanding of sex differences and sex dimorphism in relation to immune responses and how presentations of infectious diseases differ based on biology. \nOur first session will feature Dr. Sabra Klein of Johns Hopkins University\, for a talk titled “SeXX matters for viral infection and vaccination.” \n\n\n\n\n\nSeminar at 4:00PM\, 32-144 \nPoster Session Reception at 5:00PM\, R&D Commons \nRegistration Information\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPre-registration deadline: January 18\, 2022 at 12:00PM\nAfter this time\, onsite registration may be available on a space-permitting basis. \nRegistration Fees (in USD) \n— Industry: $25 \n— Academic: $10 \n— Students: Complimentary (must register with academic email address and present a valid student ID.) \n— Poster Submitters: Complimentary with submitted poster (must attend in person. Poster submitters will receive information separately about abstract submission.) \n— Virtual Attendance: Complimentary (poster session not included.) \nNOTE: No refunds can be issued for changes from in-person to virtual attendance. \nPayment methods accepted: Card Card (MasterCard\, Visa\, AMEX\, Discover) or MIT account number. Registration fees are not refundable.

SUMMARY:2021 BioMAN Summit on "Technologies to Expand the Reach of Cell and Gene Therapies"
DESCRIPTION:Join Us!!\nFeaturing Keynote presentations from Professor Bruce Levine of the University of Pennsylvania and Dr. Peter Marks of USFDA. \nThe first FDA-approved cell and gene therapies revolutionized healthcare by bringing novel medicines to patient populations who lacked other treatment options. Progress is needed on multiple fronts to extend the application of these innovative product modalities to new patient populations and disease indications. \nMIT CBI’s BioMAN Consortium will host the 2021 BioMAN Summit\, which brings together thought leaders from industry\, academia\, and government for a series of invited presentations that will:\n– Identify what innovative cell and gene therapies are advancing\nthrough the development pipeline in the immuno-oncology space\nand across other disease indications.\n– Explore what the cell and gene therapy ‘factory of the future’ looks like and how it will meet the technical and logistical challenges of\nscaled-up or scaled-out manufacturing.\n– Discover what novel technologies can address current cell and gene therapy bottlenecks such as supply and variability of raw materials.\n– Examine how analytics can improve process development and manufacturing and decrease the cost of goods for these modalities.\n– Investigate strategies for introducing new technologies in the face of compressed development timelines and accelerated product\napprovals.

SUMMARY:Leading Digital Transformation in Health Care
DESCRIPTION:Digital transformation in health care is happening at an increasingly rapid pace. The current global health care crisis is only bolstering the need for technology to provide meaningful solutions. Digital health technologies can make it more convenient for a patient to make an appointment. They can make it easier for doctors to access the right information at the right time. They can make it more efficient for a health system to manage their population and deliver high-value\, high-quality care at a reasonable cost—or to continually improve care through knowledge generation in the model of a learning health system. \nWhile excitement and investment in these technologies is rapidly increasing\, the adoption and value proposition of technology for health care remains complex and multifaceted. Which innovations will provide more cost-effective\, patient-centered\, quality care? How do you differentiate value-producing technologies from hype? As a leader\, what are the critical steps in managing the change process? How do you leverage digital strategies throughout your organization to benefit all aspects of health care? Insights into these questions are critical not just for health systems\, but also business leaders developing industry solutions for health care. \nThis Harvard Medical School Executive Education program provides you with the knowledge\, tools and strategies to design and implement technology-enabled change initiatives in health care. It will feature a combination of live virtual class sessions and self-paced learning and discussions. A certificate of completion will be provided.

SUMMARY:Grant Writing Workshop: Non-dilutive grant funding for early-stage technology companies
DESCRIPTION:Attend for an overview of SBIR/STTR programs relating to biomedical and medical device technologies with a focus on NIH and NSF. \nAbout this event: \nAttend to hear Natalie Rudolph go over the following topics: \n• Overview of SBIR/STTR programs relating to biomedical and medical device technologies\,\nwith a focus on NIH and NSF \n• Essential elements of a successful SBIR/STTR project \n• Key components of a competitive SBIR/STTR application \nNatalie will also be hosting 1:1 meetings from 1pm – 3pm for those who are interested in connecting with her further. If you’re interested in scheduling time with her please send us an email at M2D2@uml.edu. \nNatalie S. Rudolph\, Ph.D. \nRudolph Biomedical Consulting \nRudolph Biomedical Consulting works with early-stage technology companies to identify potential non-dilutive funding sources\, design R&D projects\, and write grant applications to fund them. Project areas include biotechnology\, medical devices and telehealth. My focus is Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grants and contracts from NIH\, NSF and DOD. However\, my work spans a wide range of opportunities from agencies such as BARDA\, DARPA\, NIH\, NSF\, DoD\, AHRQ and PCORI. My clients include small companies and academic investigators\, and institutions preparing large complex program proposals. \nMy projects begin with a planning exercise to define the goals and deliverables and to outline the proposed work. This allows us to determine the best match with the funding opportunity objectives\, scope\, budget and duration. \nI love working with the energy and enthusiasm of entrepreneurs!
