Internship Spotlight: Angela Jee

Brandeis University student Angela Jee joined miniPCR bio, a company that designs and manufactures accessible tools for molecular biology education and research, through the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center’s (MLSC) Internship Challenge. A Biology major with a minor in Chemistry, Angela worked across both the lab and marketing teams, bringing critical thinking skills, technical abilities, and a collaborative mindset to her projects. Her contributions earned her recognition as an honorable mention for the MLSC’s inaugural Susan Windham-Bannister Life Sciences Intern Award, and following her internship, she was hired full-time by miniPCR bio.

During her time at miniPCR bio, Angela helped improve several of the biotechnology experiments used in the company’s Learning Lab products. These tools are designed to help students and educators explore molecular biology in classrooms and lab environments. By carefully testing and refining existing procedures, Angela found ways to make experiments more reliable, efficient, and easier for users to follow.

Angela also took a thoughtful approach to documenting her work. She created clear troubleshooting guides, step-by-step references, and presentations that helped colleagues understand her findings and apply them to future projects. Her attention to detail and organized approach helped strengthen the resources used by educators and students around the world.

One of Angela’s most impactful projects involved evaluating and documenting the performance of the Viewit Gel Electrophoresis Illumination Kit, a tool designed to help users visualize DNA during experiments. She led testing across a range of experimental conditions and compared the system against earlier tools, generating detailed data and performance summaries that formed the foundation of the product’s launch materials.

Beyond her technical work, Angela was known for her ability to collaborate across a variety of teams. She worked closely with colleagues in research, product development, and marketing, helping translate complex ideas into clear, practical information.

Angela made such a strong impression during her internship that she was invited to join miniPCR bio full-time after graduating from Brandeis University in 2024. Her initiative, collaborative spirit, and dedication reflect the purpose of the MLSC’s Internship Challenge, which helps students gain hands-on experience and prepare for careers in Massachusetts’ world-class life sciences ecosystem.

Since 2015, miniPCR bio has hosted 23 internships with support from the MLSC totaling over $175,000.
