Internship Spotlight: Yash Patel

Boston University student Yash Patel joined BioSens8, a Cambridge-based digital health company developing real-time biosensors that leverage microbial engineering to deliver precise health insights, as part of the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center’s (MLSC) Internship Challenge in 2024. Through his impressive technical skills and strong collaboration efforts, Yash was awarded the MLSC’s Inaugural Susan Windham-Bannister Life Sciences Intern Award.

At BioSens8, Yash worked as a Hardware Engineer on the Microfluidics/Wearables team and quickly succeeded in his role. From his first day, he played a key part in advancing product design and development, contributing both technical expertise and innovative problem-solving to a professional research environment. His ability to collaborate and communicate with a variety of engineering disciplines helped drive progress on multiple projects and strengthen the team’s overall capabilities.

Yash’s leadership and creativity also stood out during his internship. He took initiative in exploring new methods to improve the company’s design and testing processes, helping to accelerate development timelines and improve efficiency. His work exemplified a combination of technical skills, curiosity, and teamwork that represents the gold standard of the MLSC’s Internship Challenge.

Yash graduated from Boston University in 2025 with a degree in Biomedical Engineering and a concentration in Nanotechnology. He is now continuing to grow in the field by pursuing a PhD in electrical engineering at Boston University under Dr. Rabia Yazicigil at the Wireless Integrated Systems & Extreme Circuits Lab. His work is centered on bio-application–specific integrated circuit design and explores how to pair those systems with advancements in synthetic biology to build the next generation of wearable and ingestible devices that are smaller, safer, and able to address real clinical needs.

The MLSC’s Internship Challenge connects students and recent graduates with paid internship opportunities at life sciences companies across the Commonwealth. The program provides meaningful, hands-on experiences that prepare the next generation of talent to thrive in Massachusetts’ world-leading life sciences ecosystem. Applications for the 2026-27 program round opened on Dec. 1, 2025. Click here to learn more.
