Massachusetts Stands Up to Cancer

On Stand Up to Cancer Day, the MLSC proudly celebrates the remarkable advancements in cancer research and draws inspiration from the dedication of researchers, patients, advocates, and oncologists who are on the frontlines of the fight against cancer. Since 2018, the MLSC has invested more than $35 million to support pioneering cancer research. Massachusetts is home to world-class institutions, cutting-edge research facilities, and a life sciences ecosystem unlike any other, positioning it at the forefront of global cancer innovation and discovery.

One example is the collaboration between Brigham and Women’s Hospital and life sciences company PathAI. Together, they are creating and managing one of the largest repositories of breast, colorectal, and ovarian tumor images in the United States, linked to pre-diagnostic data. This massive dataset will not only enhance public health efforts but also support the training of future data scientists in health research.

Additionally, through our MassNextGen Initiative, which empowers underrepresented entrepreneurs, innovative companies are working on breakthrough cancer solutions. For instance, Reboot Rx is utilizing AI technology to repurpose existing drugs for potential cancer treatments, offering new hope for patients while accelerating the development of effective therapies.
