MLSC Celebrates Brockton High School Apprentices

The future is bright for the next generation of life sciences leaders in Brockton. This May, MLSC President and CEO Kirk Taylor and the MLSC team celebrated the latest cohort of the Brockton High School Apprenticeship Challenge. Through the MLSC High School Apprenticeship Challenge, 15 Brockton students participated in an after-school biotechnology lab-training program. The MLSC team also facilitates and funds internships for these students upon completion of the program. Since 2018, 127 Brockton students have participated in the program. Overall, the MLSC has provided Brockton High School with $616,471 for STEM equipment and supplies, teacher professional development, and annual support of the lab training program.

This year, the MLSC provided more than $50,800 to support the Brockton cohort, building off the Center’s historical investment of this program for Brockton students now totaling over $284,800 since 2018. Brockton High School is also a previous recipient of four grants from the MLSC totaling more than $330,000. Additionally, in 2019, Brockton Public Schools received $200,000 to catalyze the district’s plans to adopt a comprehensive and innovative science curriculum for all seven of their middle schools. The plans were designed in partnership with the high school with the aim of better preparing students for transition into high school STEM courses.
