MLSC Celebrates Mass STEM Week with Partners Across the Commonwealth

The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) was proud to join partners throughout the Commonwealth in celebrating Massachusetts STEM Week 2025. Highlighting the theme of “STEM Starts Now,” Massachusetts STEM Week emphasizes that at any age you can learn about STEM, from the youngest students to adult learners, while also showcasing the STEM educational opportunities and careers available across Massachusetts.

Throughout the week, the MLSC participated in events that showcased the collaboration and creativity driving the future of STEM in Massachusetts.

The week kicked off on Monday at Framingham State University’s Christa McAuliffe Center for Integrated Science Learning, where MLSC President and CEO Kirk Taylor, MD joined Executive Office of Education Secretary Patrick Tutwiler, Senate President Karen Spilka, and fellow members of the STEM Advisory Council to launch this year’s STEM Week.

That afternoon, the MLSC team participated in MassBioEd’s Life Sciences Career Expo at UMass Boston. The event connected students and job seekers with life sciences employers, education providers, and career opportunities.

On Tuesday, President Taylor delivered the keynote address and moderated a panel discussion, Insights From the Field: The Need for Medical Innovation & Scientific Research, at the Innovate2Impact Innovation Expo, hosted by Tufts University School of Medicine. The event brought together researchers, educators, and industry professionals to showcase a variety of health-related innovations grounded in research.

On Wednesday, the MLSC returned to Framingham State University for the grand opening of the McAuliffe Center’s Simulation Lab, a space funded by NASA that features advanced visualization tools and two immersive VR CAVE rooms.

That evening, the MLSC team joined MassBioEd once again to celebrate at the 10th Annual Champions for Biotechnology Awards & Gala, recognizing leaders and organizations making lasting contributions to life sciences education and workforce development.

Thursday brought another exciting milestone as Dr. Taylor and the MLSC team joined Museum of Science President Tim Ritchie and other industry partners to celebrate the opening of HMS MEDscience’s new training space at the museum. The facility will help expand the MEDscience program, using immersive, real-world medical simulations to engage students in STEM learning.

That same evening, the MLSC exhibited at the NSBE Boston Career Fair, where the team met with students and professionals to share information about the MLSC’s Internship Programs, which are designed to provide meaningful work-based learning experiences for students interested in life sciences careers.

The week concluded on Friday with a visit to LabCentral, where the team observed the Biotech Ready program in action. The program identifies competencies, provides targeted training, and evaluates performance for college students pursuing degrees and careers in biotechnology.

Massachusetts STEM Week offered many shining examples of the collaboration and innovation that define the Commonwealth’s life sciences ecosystem. The MLSC is proud to support and invest in programs that ensure every student, educator, and emerging professional has the opportunity to explore and thrive in the exciting world of life sciences.
