MLSC Funding Helps Build Pathways to Life Sciences Careers at Massasoit Community College

The MLSC team recently joined leaders from Massasoit Community College and state and local officials in Brockton to celebrate the opening of the college’s new 26,000-square-foot Science Building. With modern laboratories and technology-enabled classrooms, the new facility is creating more opportunities for students to gain practical experience and build the skills needed for careers in the life sciences. Among the programs taking place in this expanded learning environment is Massasoit’s Life Sciences Research Skills Micro-Credentialing Program, which the MLSC has supported through more than $572,000 in Post-secondary Education and Training Grants through the Education and Workforce Development Grant Program.

The no-cost, hybrid program connects online instruction with hands-on laboratory experience, giving students practical training in areas such as cell culture, molecular biology, and microscopy. By bringing industry-relevant skills into the classroom, the program helps students build a foundation they can carry into entry-level roles and further opportunities across the life sciences ecosystem.

During the visit, the MLSC also provided Pathmaker validation of Massasoit’s life sciences curriculum. The validation recognizes its alignment with the PathmakerBIO Core Competencies and the evolving needs of the life sciences industry, giving prospective students a way to identify training that reflects the technical and professional skills employers are seeking.

The investment is part of a longstanding relationship between the MLSC and Massasoit. Since 2011, the MLSC has awarded the college more than $672,000 for biotechnology education and life sciences workforce training. Additionally, 40 Massasoit students have participated in internships funded through the MLSC’s internship programming, gaining hands-on experience with leading life sciences companies.
