The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) was proud to sponsor and participate once again in MassBioEd’s 11th Annual Life Science Workforce Conference: Building Talent Pathways in a Dynamic Time: Massachusetts Prepares the Future Workforce, bringing together leaders from the life sciences industry, academic institutions, training providers, and government and community leaders to explore key issues and strategies in building a strong life science workforce in Massachusetts.
This year’s conference focused on the opportunities and challenges shaping talent development across the Commonwealth. Through panel discussions and collaborative group conversations, attendees explored strategies to expand access to career opportunities, strengthen workforce pipelines, and ensure Massachusetts remains the global hub for the life sciences.
MLSC President and CEO Dr. Kirk Taylor participated in the morning keynote plenary, Industry, Higher Education, Government, and Non-Profit Workforce Priorities Respond to a Dynamic Environment, alongside fellow leaders from across the Massachusetts ecosystem. The discussion examined the current landscape of life sciences workforce development and how broader industry trends are influencing workforce needs, investment priorities, and program strategies.

Following the morning keynote plenary, Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development Secretary Lauren Jones delivered a keynote address focused on the Commonwealth’s efforts to strengthen workforce development and expand pathways into high-demand careers. Jones highlighted the role of apprenticeship programs in meeting evolving workforce needs and emphasized the importance of continued investment in talent development to support Massachusetts’ innovation economy.

Later in the morning, Massachusetts Executive Office of Economic Development Undersecretary Zenobia Moochhala participated in the panel, Aligning Commonwealth Education, Workforce and Economic Development to Support a Vital Industry, alongside Assistant Secretary of Career Education Robert LePage from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Education and Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development Undersecretary Alysia Ordway. Together, the panelists focused on the value of leveraging the distinct authority of each office in supporting a comprehensive economic growth agenda to benefit all corners of the Commonwealth.
Rounding out the conference, members of the MLSC team led the conference’s Industry-Educator Advising Session, which provided an opportunity for companies to have conversations with schools and training providers to deepen each other’s understanding of current talent needs, curriculum, and programs in the life sciences.
The MLSC remains committed to supporting workforce initiatives that bolster the talent pipeline, increase opportunities for high-quality careers, and help ensure the continued success of the Commonwealth’s life sciences ecosystem.
