The Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), unveiled its groundbreaking Functional Repair of Neocortical Tissue (FRONT) program, a transformative initiative to restore brain function and position the U.S. as the global leader in brain repair technology. For more information, visit the FRONT program page.
The agency also recently announced that it will join the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to announce the winners of the AI Cyber Challenge (AIxCC) at DEF CON 33, one of the world’s largest hacking conferences. AIxCC is a two-year competition to develop AI-enabled software that automatically identifies and patches vulnerabilities in source code.
Finally, ARPA-H tapped the Investor Catalyst (IC) Hub expert network, which spans over 600 institutions nationwide, to help the INDEX team better understand the current data landscape and create a program that would meet user needs. The IC Hub’s network survey offered a 360-degree perspective from medical imaging data providers, managers, and users on how to build an effective platform to advance AI and machine learning (ML) applications. These findings provided ARPA-H with key program areas covering data security, affordability, interoperability, and demographic and clinical representation.
The Commonwealth is home to ARPA-H’s Investor Catalyst Hub. Massachusetts-based companies and institutions have been awarded approximately more than $400 million through ARPA-H.
