MLSC and Brandeis University Cut the Ribbon on New Light Microscopy Core Facility

The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) joined members of Brandeis University’s leadership and faculty, as well as state and local officials to cut the ribbon on the University’s new Light Microscopy Core Facility, made possible through a $2.4 million grant from the MLSC’s Research Infrastructure program.

The Light Microscopy Core Facility at Brandeis was developed to expand access to advanced imaging technologies for high-speed and super-resolution imaging. The facility provides capabilities for whole-organ, tissue, cellular, and molecular imaging that remain limited across the region, making these tools more accessible to researchers at both academic institutions and companies.

The MLSC investment supported the acquisition and installation of state-of-the-art imaging instrumentation, enabling high-speed data collection and analysis at unprecedented resolution. In addition to equipment, the facility offers training and technical support, helping students, researchers, and industry professionals build the skills needed to effectively utilize advanced imaging technologies.

These resources not only accelerate research efforts, but also provide hands-on training opportunities that translate directly to new careers in Massachusetts’ life sciences workforce. The facility is already supporting a growing user base from across the Greater Boston academic and industry communities.

Including this award, the MLSC has invested more than $3.4 million in support of the University since 2008. Additionally, the MLSC has supported 130 Brandeis students through its internship programming, helping to support the Commonwealth’s talent pipeline.

Through strategic investments in research infrastructure, workforce development, and innovation, the MLSC and Brandeis University continue to expand access to cutting-edge technologies, support scientific breakthroughs, and strengthen the Commonwealth’s life sciences ecosystem.
