MLSC Celebrates MassBioEd Life Sciences Apprentices

The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) recently joined the Massachusetts Biotechnology Education Foundation (MassBioEd) alongside industry and legislative leaders to celebrate the graduation of 29 apprentices from their Life Sciences Apprenticeship program.

MLSC President and CEO Kirk Taylor, MD, delivered the keynote address, recognizing the graduates and highlighting the role training programs play in strengthening the future of the Commonwealth’s life sciences workforce.

MassBioEd’s Life Sciences Apprenticeship program provides accelerated training for individuals new to the industry, with three tracks aligned to high-demand roles across the life sciences ecosystem. The program tracks are focused on training for the roles of Biomanufacturing Technician, Clinical Trial Associate, and Laboratory Support Specialist, equipping apprentices with foundational knowledge while connecting employers with highly skilled talent. To date, MassBioEd has supported 176 apprentices across 11 cohorts.

The MLSC has supported the Life Sciences Apprenticeship program since its inception in 2021, including a $50,000 grant to assist the program’s pilot year, and a $740,000 capital investment in 2023, awarded in collaboration with their training partner, Northeastern University.
